Meade County history begins with the nomadic Plains Indian tribes known to have camped and hunted throughout the territory.
Francisco Coronado first crossed the county in 1541 and was the first white man to see this land. The next white men to enter the county were probably traders or trappers more than 250 years later.
The Meade County Historical Society Museum tells the story of Meade County from the Indian period to the present with emphasis on the pioneer settler and agriculture.
